NJ Prescription Blank Rule Deadline Extension The October 1, 2008, deadline for changes to prescription blanks was extended indefinitely. The Division of Consumer Affairs stated that the preprinting of NPI numbers and sequential numbering would not be required until clarifying regulations were adopted. In the meantime all prescription blanks are required to include consecutive numbers, but you are permitted to write in or stamp these numbers onto the blanks. If you have an NPI number that number must also appear. You must, however, maintain a system for tracking the consecutive numbers
The Division of Consumer Affairs letter is on http://msnj.org/ and can also be found at http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/drug/NJPBltr1.pdf
If further statutory or regulatory changes in the prescription format occur, the new requirements will be available online at www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/drug/dchome.htm
